The Coastal Club promotional lighthouse at Five Points is nearing completion.

Nov 15, 2014 - Workmen are putting finishing touches on a scale model of the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse constructed on a point of commercial land at Five Points. According to Preston Schell, who is involved with the project, plantings in the grass on either side of the lighthouse will spell out Coastal Club to promote a residential community by that name under construction a few miles to the west of Five Points on Beaver Dam Road.

A website for the community, www.thecoastalclub.com, notes that it is nautically inspired, surrounds a 42-acre natural area, will eventually include sites for 600 homes, and includes trails and buffered natural areas that back up to Goslee Mill Pond.

The Cape Henlopen Lighthouse fell into the sea in April 1926, but its maritime legacy lives on in this promotional reconstruction and in the larger model that greets visitors to Rehoboth Beach in the Rehoboth Avenue traffic circle just east of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal drawbridge.
